The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Sigognac vineyard covers 45 contiguous hectares in Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc. The soils are clay-limestone. The average vine age is approximately 40 years. The grape variety distribution is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

Flagship cuvées

The estate produces several cuvées. Château Sigognac is the property's first wine, a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Le Benjamin de Sigognac is the estate's second wine. A prestige single-parcel cuvée, L’Enclos de Sigognac, comes from vines around 80 years old and is vinified entirely in barrels. The estate also produces a 100% Merlot cuvée, as well as a cuvée named French Flair. Occasionally, a dry white wine, a sweet white Sémillon, and a rosé are also produced.

Vinification and ageing

The vinification of Château Sigognac and its L'Enclos de Sigognac cuvée involves oak barrel ageing. For the Château Sigognac cuvée, ageing lasts 12 months in oak barrels. The L'Enclos de Sigognac cuvée is harvested by hand and vinified entirely in oak barrels.
