Identity

Château Sociando-Mallet is located in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne.

History and philosophy

The estate was acquired in 1969 by Jean Gautreau. He managed it until his passing in late 2019, subsequently handing the property over to his daughter, Sylvie Gautreau. The estate is currently managed by François Hugueniot. The property is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE).

Appellations

Château Sociando-Mallet produces wines under the Haut-Médoc appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard extends over a planted area of 83 hectares, of which 70 hectares are dedicated to red grape varieties. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, are planted on gravel ridges, characteristic of the Médoc gravel terroirs.

The red grape varieties comprise 55% Merlot, 43% Cabernet-Sauvignon, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Key cuvées

The estate is renowned for its Grand Vin, Château Sociando-Mallet. It also crafts a special cuvée, Jean Gautreau. The wines are produced to express the character of their terroir, offering aromatic profiles and structure that reflect their origin.

Vinification and ageing

The wines are crafted under the supervision of cellar master Arnaud Durand and oenologist Thomas Duclos.
