Identity

Château Turcaud is a winegrowing estate located in La Sauve-Majeure, in the Gironde department. It is owned by Isabelle and Stéphane Le May.

History and philosophy

Château Turcaud was founded in 1973 by Maurice Robert and his wife Simone. Today, the estate is run by the second generation of owners, Isabelle and Stéphane Le May. The vineyard is committed to sustainable farming practices (lutte raisonnée) and mechanical weeding.

Appellations

The estate produces wines under the Entre-deux-Mers appellation, as well as under the Bordeaux appellation.

Winemaking and ageing

"Cuvée Majeure" undergoes ageing for approximately 15 months in oak barrels, comprising a mix of new oak, one-wine, and two-wine barrels.

Practical information

Château Turcaud is located at 1033, route de Bonneau, 33670 La Sauve-Majeure. The cellar door is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. On Saturday, opening hours are 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The estate is closed on Sundays. The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Turcaud vineyard extends over 50 hectares. It is planted on silica-gravel and clay soils, which are often loamy. The grape varieties are divided into 24 hectares of red grape varieties and 26 hectares of white grape varieties. Harvesting is carried out mechanically.

Flagship cuvées

Among the wines produced, "Cuvée Majeure" is a red wine made from a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Representing 10 to 15% of the château's total red wine production, this cuvée comes from the estate's gravel plots. It generally displays a sophisticated aromatic profile and structure, reflecting its ageing.
