The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard of Domaine de la Gauche covers an area of 8 hectares. The soils are gravelly-sandy. The grape varieties planted for the production of Sauternes comprise Sémillon, Sauvignon Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Yields for the Sauternes wines generally range between 16 and 18 hectolitres per hectare. The estate has also planted 1,500 metres of hedges, contributing to the biodiversity of its ecosystem.

Flagship cuvées

The estate produces sweet Sauternes wines. The estate's "Cuvée de Tête" is characterised by aromatic complexity developed during prolonged ageing. Another cuvée, named "Cuvée Fraîcheur", offers a distinct profile, vinified to emphasise vivacity and purity of fruit.

Vinification and ageing

For the Sauternes wines, ageing typically lasts between 12 and 18 months. The "Cuvée de Tête" undergoes two years of ageing in French oak barrels with distinct toast levels. The "Cuvée Fraîcheur" is aged on fine lees for around one year in pyramidal concrete vats, without any oak contact. The estate's Bordeaux Supérieur wines are aged for approximately one year.
