History and philosophy

The history of the estate dates back to the Napoleonic era, when an ancestor of the Barthe family acquired the initial plots of land. The Barthe family has been tending vines from father to son since the 19th century, with their presence in the region documented for over 400 years. Jean-Claude Barthe, a graduate of one of the earliest classes at the Institut d’œnologie de Bordeaux, brought his expertise to the estate. Today, Stéphane and Alain Barthe are the owners.

Vignobles Claude Barthe produces wines across several appellations, notably AOC Entre-Deux-Mers, AOC Bordeaux Côtes de Franc, AOC Bordeaux Supérieur, AOC Bordeaux Rosé, and AOC Bordeaux Clairet. The vineyard is located in Entre-Deux-Mers.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard covers an area of 50 hectares and is characterised by clay-limestone soils. The average vine age is 20 years. Vineyard management includes tillage and grass cover cropping in the parcels after their third year of planting. Crop protection follows sustainable viticulture (lutte raisonnée) practices.

Flagship cuvées
