Château Branda is located in Cadillac-en-Fronsadais, in the Gironde department. The estate's technical director is Yannick BRUN.

History and philosophy

The original château dates back to the 14th century and was converted into a residence in the early 16th century. In 1599, the property was incorporated into the barony of Cadillac. The château underwent extensive restoration during the 1990s.

The vineyard is managed using sustainable viticulture methods.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Branda vineyard covers a total surface area of 27.2636 hectares. It is planted on clay-limestone soils composed of Fronsadais molasse, as well as sandy-clay parcels and boulbène soils over molasse.

The grape varieties across the 23 hectares dedicated to red wines comprise 50% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon. The 4 hectares of white vines are planted with Sauvignon Blanc. The vines have an average age of over 40 years, with a planting density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Row spacing is 2 metres, with 1 metre between vines. Pruning is carried out using the double Guyot method. Routine viticultural work includes de-suckering, canopy lifting, trimming, and leaf removal. Harvesting is carried out mechanically, generally between mid-September and mid-October.

Château Branda produces a red wine crafted primarily from Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Sauvignon.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification at Château Branda takes place in a temperature-controlled vat room. The grapes undergo sorting and crushing before vinification and ageing are carried out separately for each lot.
