History and philosophy

The family story of Vignobles Courty began with Maurice Courty, who founded Château Lafleur Châtain in the early 1900s. In the 1960s, Marie-Thérèse and Robert Courty, the second generation, took over the family property. In 1985, Joëlle and Serge Courty established Château Maine Chaigneau. The EARL Vignobles Courty entity was created in 2012. The estate joined the Environmental Management System (EMS) for Bordeaux wines in 2014, reflecting a commitment to more environmentally friendly practices. In 2017, the vineyard achieved Level 3 Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

The vineyard spans a total area of 7.80 hectares. The surface area is distributed across 5.10 hectares in Lalande-de-Pomerol, 1.50 hectares in Montagne-Saint-Émilion and 1.20 hectares in Vin de France. The grape varieties comprise 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. The estate holds Level 3 HVE certification.

Flagship cuvées

The estate produces several wines, including a flagship Lalande-de-Pomerol cuvée, Cuvée JS, first released in 2008. This wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers an ageing potential of 8 to 12 years and is best served at 17–18°C. Annual production for Lalande-de-Pomerol stands at 38,000 bottles. In Montagne-Saint-Émilion, annual production reaches 12,000 bottles. The estate also offers speciality cuvées such as Délice de Bulles and Douceurs d’Automne, each with an annual production of 4,000 bottles.
