The terroir

The Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation is situated on the Right Bank of the Dordogne, right next to the prestigious Pomerol appellation. It spans two main communes: Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. The vineyard benefits from a diverse range of soils, ranging from gravel over clay subsoils to wind-blown sands and clay-dominant plots. This diversity contributes to the complexity of the wines produced across the appellation.

The wines

Lalande-de-Pomerol produces exclusively red wines. The dominant grape variety is Merlot, which imparts suppleness and fruit-forward charm. It is complemented by Cabernet Franc, which adds structure and freshness, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec in smaller proportions. These wines are typically characterised by a deep colour and aromas of red and black fruits, often accompanied by spicy or undergrowth notes. They display a well-defined yet velvety tannic structure, offering commendable ageing potential.

Food and wine pairing

Thanks to their balance of power and finesse, Lalande-de-Pomerol wines pair effortlessly with a wide variety of dishes. They are traditionally served with grilled red meats or meats in rich sauces, such as duck breast or fillet of beef. Roast poultry, feathered game, and mature cheeses with character, such as Saint-Nectaire or a young Comté, also make excellent matches. Their versatility makes them a favourite at the dining table.
