Château de l'Enclos is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Pineuilh, in the Gironde department. The estate is managed by Armelle and Eric Bonneville, with technical management overseen by Bertrand Perdigal.
History and philosophy
The château itself dates back to the 17th century, having undergone various architectural evolutions up until the 19th century. Vignobles Lamont acquired the property in 2003, marking a new chapter for the estate. Committed to environmentally friendly viticultural practices, the estate has turned towards organic methods and achieved Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) Level 3 certification in 2018.
The appellations
Château de l'Enclos produces wines under the Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations. The estate's white wines are also crafted under the Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux appellation.
Winemaking and ageing
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and conical vats. Ageing is carried out either in vats or in French oak barrels for up to 12 months. Bottling is carried out at the château.

The vineyard (terroir)
The vineyard of Château de l'Enclos extends over 23 hectares, 19 of which are currently in production. The plots are planted on varied terroirs, featuring clay-limestone, sandy-clay, and boulbènes soils. Planting density is 5,000 vines per hectare. With an average age of over 30 years, the vines are pruned using single and double Guyot systems. Vineyard management includes manual de-suckering, shoot thinning, and leaf stripping. Yields range between 40 and 45 hectolitres per hectare. Harvesting is carried out partly by hand, with the remainder picked mechanically.
The red grape varieties comprise Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. White varieties, covering 2 hectares, consist of Sémillon and Sauvignon.
Flagship cuvées
Château de l'Enclos offers several cuvées, including Château l'Enclos, Château l'Enclos Réserve, and Château l'Enclos AAA. This latter "Triple A" cuvée—standing for "Assemblage, Authentique, Ad’hoc"—is particularly emblematic of the estate. The property's red wines are crafted to deliver both complexity and ageing potential.
