Château de la Vieille Tour is a family-owned estate, currently managed by its sixth generation. Pascal Boissonneau serves as co-owner, technical director, and winemaker, while Nicolas Boissonneau holds the positions of co-owner and sales director.

The estate is located in the commune of Saint-Michel-de-Lapujade, in the Gironde department.

History and Philosophy

The winegrowing history of Saint-Michel-de-Lapujade dates back to 1150, when the first vines were planted by order of Éléonore de Provence. The family estate of Château de la Vieille Tour was founded in 1839 by Pierre Boissonneau.

Over the generations, the estate has reached several key milestones. During the 1960s, the vineyard underwent extensive restructuring. The 1970s saw the production of its first estate-bottled wines. Christian Boissonneau, representing the fifth generation, joined the property in 1975, expanding sales across Europe in the 1980s, the North American market in the 1990s, and Asia in the 2000s. Pascal Boissonneau, of the sixth generation, arrived in 2005. He spearheaded the conversion to organic farming in 2007, culminating in the first certified organic vintage in 2011. In 2015, Christian and Thérèse Boissonneau retired. Nicolas Boissonneau, also of the sixth generation, joined the family business in 2018.

Winemaking and ageing methods are tailored to each cuvée:

The Réserve Tradition cuvée of Château de la Vieille Tour is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, one-third of which are new.
The Héritage cuvée of Château de la Vieille Tour is aged in new 400-litre French oak barrels.
The Cuvée Pierre of Château de la Vieille Tour benefits from two years of ageing in new 400-litre French oak barrels.
For the Vinum Terra range, ageing takes place in stoneware amphorae (6 months for Vinum Terra Abouriou) or terracotta amphorae (a few months for Vinum Terra Merlot - Sans Souffre Ajouté).
