Château de Potiron is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Capian, in the Gironde department. The property is managed by Marlène Schmidt. Christine Chamade is the estate's oenologist, while Jean-Philippe Coule oversees the vineyard management.
History and philosophy
Château de Potiron has been a family-owned estate for three generations. The château, which dates back to the 17th century, was acquired by Joergen Schmidt, a wine merchant of Danish origin. Following his death in 2016, his daughter Marlène Schmidt took over the helm of the property. The estate’s philosophy focuses on sustainable viticulture (agriculture raisonnée).

Château de Potiron produces its wines under the Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation, and more specifically within Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux.
Winemaking and ageing
The vinification of selected cuvées, such as Cuvée Exceptionnelle, is carried out by hand in new French oak barrels. Fermentation can take place directly in 400-litre casks. The grapes are pressed in a vertical basket press with oak staves. Ageing lasts for up to 24 months for certain cuvées, always in barrel.

Cuvée Exceptionnelle
This cuvée is crafted from a Merlot-dominant blend. It is vinified manually in new French oak barrels using an integral vinification method. Ageing extends for 24 months in these same barrels. The wine is distinguished by its rich structure and expressive palate. Cuvée Exceptionnelle is available in 75 cl bottles, as well as 3 L and 5 L large formats.
Cuvée Excellence
Cuvée Excellence is primarily composed of Merlot (60%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in oak casks for 24 months and is presented in heavy Bordeaux bottles.
Cuvée Passion
Cuvée Passion is presented in 75 cl tapered bottles. Recent vintages include 2016.
Cuvée Privilège
Cuvée Privilège is available in 6-bottle cases, with the 2015 and 2016 vintages notable among available releases.
L'Or de Potiron

Portes ouvertes Maison des Vins 2026 | Ville de Cadillac sur Garonne
La 31ème édition des Journées Portes Ouvertes de la Région des Premières Côtes de Bordeaux se tiendra les 6 et 7 juin 2026, de 10h à 19h. Cet événement permettra aux visiteurs de rencontrer une trentaine de vignerons d'exception qui partageront leur passion et proposeront de nombreuses animations, activités ludiques et déjeuners.
