Terroir

The Côtes de Bordeaux appellation brings together several geographically distinct terroirs, including Blayais and Bourgeais. These regions are located on the Right Bank of the Garonne and the Gironde. The soils are predominantly clay-limestone or clay-gravel, offering ideal conditions for viticulture. The temperate oceanic climate promotes optimal grape ripening, contributing to the balance and complexity of the wines produced across these areas.

The wines

Red wines predominate within Côtes de Bordeaux, crafted from grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Malbec and Petit Verdot are also permitted. These wines are typically characterised by red and black fruit aromas, often complemented by spicy or toasty notes following cellar ageing. Their structure is well-balanced, featuring present yet supple tannins that grant them versatile ageing potential.

Food pairings

Red wines from Côtes de Bordeaux, especially those from Blayais and Bourgeais, are remarkably versatile at the table. They pair wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats, poultry, and rich casseroles or meat dishes in sauce. Their aromatic profile also complements hard or mature cheeses.
