Château la Croix Bertineau is a family-owned winegrowing estate located in Néac, in the Gironde. It is owned by Paul and Aline Hopital, who work alongside Philippe Hopital and their daughter Delphine.

History and philosophy

The estate was established in April 2005 by Paul and Aline Hopital, while the vineyard itself was planted in 1993. Viticulture here is carried out manually using traditional methods.

Appellations

The estate produces wines under the Lalande de Pomerol, Pomerol, and Saint-Émilion appellations.

Winemaking and ageing

The estate's wines are aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, which contributes to their structure and aromatic complexity.

The estate is located at Lieu Dit Bertineau, Chemin du Vieux Four à Pain, 33500 Néac. You can get in touch by telephone on 06 81 05 32 06 or by email at lacroixbertineau@club.fr. Tours and tastings are available by appointment, 7 days a week, from 10:00 to 18:00. A complimentary tour and tasting are offered for groups of up to 10 people. French and English are spoken for visitor reception. Payment is accepted by cheque or cash.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château la Croix Bertineau vineyard covers an area of 0.5 hectares. The soils are clay-gravel, featuring a notable presence of iron oxides, locally known as crasse de fer. The average vine age is around 30 years. The grape variety plantings comprise 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

Signature cuvées

Château la Croix Bertineau offers barrel-aged red wines. The main cuvée undergoes 12 months of ageing. A special cuvée named “Cuvée Madeleine” is also produced. The wines are distinguished by the structure imparted by their ageing in French oak barrels.
