The vineyard (terroir)
The Château la Fleur Chaigneau vineyard extends across a total surface area of 11.5 hectares. It is planted on the Chaigneau plateau, characterised by sandy-clay and gravelly soils. The primary grape varieties for the estate's wine in 2007 were 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. For the Ambroisie cuvée, which has since been discontinued, the selected vines were around fifty years old.
Flagship cuvées
The estate produces several cuvées, including Château La Fleur Chaigneau and Château Virgile. A cuvée named Ambroisie de La Fleur Chaigneau was crafted in the past. This cuvée, notably in the 2003 vintage, was characterised by oaky notes (cedar, vanilla pod) and fruity nuances (kir). It was made from pure Merlot sourced from fifty-year-old vines across approximately 1.2 hectares. Production reached around 7,000 bottles for the 2003 vintage. However, production was ceased from 2011 onward in order to further elevate the quality of the estate's grand vin.
Vinification and ageing
Ageing for the Ambroisie De La Fleur Chaigneau 2003 cuvée was carried out in oak barrels.
