Identity

Château La Roberterie is a winegrowing estate currently owned by Artur and Linda Zimmer. Caroline Fleur serves as consultant oenologist, while Simon Zimmer is in charge of commercial operations.

History and philosophy

The château was reportedly built in 1590, during the reign of Henri IV. The estate is said to have belonged in the past to a Master of Arms to Napoleon, who is credited with first planting vines here. The Pantarotto family acquired the property in 1989. Since 2015, the estate has been owned by Artur and Linda Zimmer. Renovations of both the château and the winery were undertaken between 2015 and 2018, concluding in the latter year. The estate has been certified organic (Ecocert®) since the 2012 vintage.

Appellations

Château La Roberterie produces red wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation and white wines under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation.

Winemaking and ageing

The winery, modernised in 2018, is equipped with new stainless-steel vats. It also features a glycol cooling system for precise vat temperature control. Ageing may take place in vats, while the estate also uses 225-litre barriques and 500-litre casks for maturation.

The estate offers tours and tastings. Walk-ins are accepted, although booking in advance is recommended for the best experience. Direct cellar door sales are also available on site.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard is situated in Juillac, in the Gironde department. It lies on the south bank of the Dordogne, approximately 25 km south-east of Saint-Émilion. The soils are described as comparable to those of the Saint-Émilion plateau. The elevation of the plateau reaches around 100 metres.

Flagship cuvées

The estate offers several red cuvées under the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, notably “Château La Roberterie”, “Selectus”, “Primus”, and “Classicus”. A white wine is also produced under the Bordeaux Blanc appellation from Sauvignon Blanc, alongside a cuvée named “Exuberante”. All wines are certified organic and crafted exclusively from estate-grown grapes.
