Château La Rose Figeac is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Pomerol, in Gironde. It is owned by Vignobles Despagne-Rapin. Mikaël Laizet serves as consulting oenologist and Sébastien Xans as cellar master.

History and philosophy

The estate was acquired by its current owners in 1961. Since 2009, Château La Rose Figeac has been committed to organic viticulture, certified by AB/Euro-leaf and Ecocert.

The parcels of Château La Rose Figeac are located in the Pomerol sub-region, and the wines are produced under the Pomerol appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château La Rose Figeac vineyard covers an area of approximately 4.56 hectares. The terroir is characterised by sandy-gravel soils, composed of ancient sands and gravel. The grape variety distribution is dominated by Merlot (90%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (10%). The vines have an average age of around forty years. Harvesting is carried out by hand.

Flagship cuvées

The estate produces several red cuvées. Château La Rose Figeac, the main wine, is crafted predominantly from Merlot, with a touch of Cabernet Franc. The wines from this cuvée are characterised by plot-by-plot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by barrel ageing. The estate also produces Le Bouquet de La Rose Figeac and Le Temps de la Rose Figeac, both under the Pomerol appellation. Annual production is approximately 22,000 bottles.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification at Château La Rose Figeac is traditional and plot-by-plot. It takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The wines are aged in oak barrels.
