Clos Beauregard

Identity

Clos Beauregard is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Pomerol. It is managed by the Société Fermière des Grands Crus de France, part of the Groupe Les Grands Chais de France (LGCF), which was founded in 1979 by Joseph Helfrich. Clos Beauregard was acquired in 1991, with the vineyard and cellar team led by Vincent Cachau. Michel Rolland also acts as consultant oenologist.

History and philosophy

The history of Clos Beauregard was marked by its takeover in 1991 by the Société Fermière des Grands Crus de France. This acquisition integrated the property into the Groupe Les Grands Chais de France, established in 1979. The estate previously belonged to the Moueix family. Clos Beauregard's philosophy is centred on sustainable viticulture, favouring natural solutions in the management of the vineyard.

The wines of Clos Beauregard are produced under the Pomerol Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée.

Signature wines

Clos Beauregard produces a still red wine under the Pomerol AOC. Crafted using traditional vinification methods, it offers an ageing potential of 15 years or more, and is best served at between 17 and 18 °C.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Clos Beauregard vineyard extends over approximately 6 hectares. The terroir features sandy-clay soils underlaid with veins of « crasse de fer » (iron-rich hardpan). The climate is oceanic. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (60%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (25%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (15%). The vines have an average age of 40 years, with a planting density of 6,500 to 6,666 vines per hectare. Vineyard management is meticulous, including leaf-thinning on the morning-sun side and hand-harvesting.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification at Clos Beauregard takes place in small, temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Ageing lasts approximately 12 months in oak barrels, using a combination of new and previously used casks. The wines are also aged in vats.
