History and Philosophy

The estate's history dates back to the 18th century. In 1795, it was owned by the Baron de Brane. The Tereygeol family acquired the property in 1959, when the vineyard spanned just 7 hectares. Château Pontoise Cabarrus is committed to environmentally friendly practices, as evidenced by its Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The Château Pontoise Cabarrus vineyard covers 27 to 28 hectares along the Gironde estuary, in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne. The soils consist of gravel and clay-limestone, including gravel ridges overlooking the estuary. The average age of the vines is 40 years, with the oldest parcels planted in 1951. The estate's overall grape varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Flagship Cuvées

Château Pontoise Cabarrus is the estate's grand vin, a red wine crafted from the oldest parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It is characterised by a structure and aromatic profile quintessential to its appellation. The blend of the primary cuvée is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (50–65%), complemented by Merlot. This wine is available in 75 cl bottles and magnums.

The property's second wine is Côté Pontoise. This red wine is produced from the estate's younger Merlot plots, with a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. The vines sourced for this cuvée are between 15 and 20 years old. Côté Pontoise delivers a rounder profile with black fruit notes.

The estate also offers the cuvée CHATEAU HAUTS DE PLAISANCE, a still red wine under the Haut-Médoc appellation, as well as a cuvée named Petit Verdot.

Vinification and Ageing

Ageing of the wines at Château Pontoise Cabarrus takes place in oak barrels. The recommended serving temperature for the wines is generally between 17 and 18 °C.
