Identity
Château Senilhac is situated in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne. It has been owned by Pierre-Yves Rigaux and Denis Chazarain since 2023, with Éric Lagadec managing the estate. The estate is classified as a Cru Bourgeois.
History and philosophy
Vine cultivation on this terroir dates back centuries, pre-dating the creation of the Cru Bourgeois classification. Historic owners include Jean-Baptiste Basterot (in 1766), Crucier and Vergnes, François Louis Marie Armand Lalande, and the Grassin family. Château Senilhac was owned by a Chinese company from 2017 until 2023, when it was acquired by the current owners.

The Château Senilhac plots are located in the Médoc and are farmed under the Haut-Médoc appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Senilhac vineyard covers an area of 30 hectares. The soils are clay-limestone, characterised by a subsoil capable of retaining moisture. The average age of the vines is around 25 years. The grape varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. The estate carries out mechanical harvesting combined with sorting. Château Senilhac is committed to Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) environmental certification.
Key cuvées
Château Senilhac produces a still red wine bearing the estate's name. It stands out for its parcel-by-parcel vinification, which aims to preserve the purity of the fruit and the wine's structure, reflecting the authentic expression of the terroir.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification is carried out plot by plot in temperature-controlled vats. Ageing takes place in both vats and barrels.
