Identity
Château Rauzan-Gassies, classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in 1855, is located in Margaux. The property is managed by Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe Quié, representing the third generation of the Quié family.
History and philosophy
The origins of the “maison noble de Gassies” date back to the 14th century. The winegrowing history of the estate began in the 17th century with knight Pierre Desmezures de Rauzan, who founded Domaine de Rauzan. In 1763, the estate was partitioned, giving rise to Château Rauzan-Gassies. The estate was elevated to the rank of Deuxième Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Imperial Classification.
In 1946, Paul Quié acquired the property. Following his death in 1968, his son Jean-Michel Quié took over the management of the estate. Since 2000, his children, Anne-Françoise and Jean-Philippe Quié, have continued to develop the family estates. In 2012, Château Rauzan-Gassies integrated Château Bel Orme Tronquoy-de-Lalande.
In spring 2024, Château Rauzan-Gassies was awarded the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (EPV) label.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Rauzan-Gassies vineyard spans 30 hectares in the Margaux appellation and 30 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation. The plots are parcelled out across the gravel ridges of the Margaux appellation.
The soils consist of deep gravel and gravelly sands, providing natural drainage. The grape variety plantings in the Margaux appellation comprise 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. The estate is a signatory to the Natura 2000 Charter. The grasslands are managed in partnership with a Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle breeder to provide natural organic soil amendments.
Signature cuvées
The estate produces several cuvées, including the Grand Vin, Château Rauzan-Gassies. The second wine is named Gassies de Rauzan-Gassies, and the estate also offers L'Orme de Rauzan-Gassies.
Vinification and ageing
The wines of Château Rauzan-Gassies are aged in French oak barrels for 18 months, with 55% new oak.
