Château Teyssier

Identity

Château Teyssier is a winegrowing estate located in Puisseguin. The estate is owned by Dourthe. Thomas Durand-Teyssier has been the estate manager since 2007, and Jonathan Maltus is the winemaker. Antoine Darquey managed the estate from 1993 onwards.

History and Philosophy

The estate's winegrowing history dates back to the 15th century, although the main building, a chartreuse, dates from the 18th century. The current family has been linked to the estate for over a century. The property was acquired in 1994. Significant changes took place, with consultant winemakers such as Michel Rolland until 2013, followed by Stéphane Derenoncourt from 2014.

Château Teyssier is committed to environmentally friendly viticultural practices, as reflected by its Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE3) certification.

The Appellations

Château Teyssier produces wines under several appellations, notably Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, Montagne Saint-Émilion, and Puisseguin Saint-Émilion. Château Teyssier's plots are predominantly attached to the Montagne Saint-Émilion and Puisseguin Saint-Émilion appellations. The estate also produces Fleur la Chapelle in Puisseguin Saint-Émilion, and Château du Puy Bonnet in Montagne Saint-Émilion.

Winemaking and Ageing

Vinification at Château Teyssier is carried out on a parcel-by-parcel basis. The wines are made in stainless steel vats, concrete vats, and barrels. Around 70% of production is aged in barrels, including 25% new oak, for a period of 10 to 14 months. The remainder of the production is aged in vats.

Château Teyssier is located at 10, route de Montagne in Puisseguin (33570). The estate is open Monday to Thursday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:30, and Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:30. It is open all year round. The Vineyard (Terroir)

The Château Teyssier vineyard covers a total area of 51 hectares, divided between the plateau (35 ha), the south-facing amphitheatre (10 ha), and Parsac (6 ha). The terroir is characterised by clay-limestone soils, including red clay and calcaire à astéries. Sand and gravel are also recorded in Vignonet.

The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (85% or 70% depending on the source, with a planting density of 5,500 vines/ha), complemented by Cabernet Franc (15% or 30% depending on the source, with a planting density of 6,500 vines/ha). The average age of the vines is 36 years.

Viticultural practices include grass cover between rows, soil tilling, reasoned use of sulphur, as well as canopy management, leaf removal, and green harvesting. Harvesting is carried out both by hand and mechanically.

Flagship Cuvées

The estate offers several cuvées. Château Teyssier, a still red wine, is characterised by its density, structure, dark fruit aromas, and power. It displays soft tannins, well-integrated oak, and a long mineral finish. It is particularly recommended with cheeses, white meats, and red meats.

The Fleur la Chapelle cuvée is a generous, supple red wine marked by red fruit notes, crafted to be approachable and easy to enjoy.

Château du Puy Bonnet is made exclusively from Merlot. It is produced only in years of exceptional ripeness. This wine stands out for its deep colour, indulgent character, and rich expression of dark and red fruits.
