Château Tour de Calens is a winegrowing estate located in the commune of Beautiran, in the Gironde department. It is owned by the Doublet family. Acquired by Bernard and Dominique Doublet in 1987, it is managed today by Alexandre Doublet.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Tour de Calens within the Doublet family began in 1987. The estate is farmed in keeping with the region's winegrowing traditions, with particular attention paid to terroir expression.

Appellations

Château Tour de Calens produces wines under several appellations. Red wines are crafted under the Graves rouge appellation, while white wines are produced under Graves blanc. A sweet wine cuvée is also offered under the Graves Supérieures appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Tour de Calens vineyard covers an area of 10 hectares. It is characterised by soils composed of deep gravel and grey sands. The estate is situated south of Bordeaux, on the Left Bank of the Garonne.

Key cuvées

The estate offers red wines, including Château Tour de Calens rouge, crafted predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon alongside other classic local grape varieties. These wines generally display a balanced structure. Château Tour de Calens white wines, made from Sémillon and Sauvignon, are aged in oak barrels, giving them complexity and roundness. The estate also produces a sweet wine in Graves Supérieures, characterised by late harvesting, which imparts great aromatic concentration.

Vinification and ageing

For the white wines, ageing takes place in oak barrels. The sweet wine is made from late harvests, a technique that yields a natural concentration of sugars.
