Identity

Closerie Saint-Roc is a winegrowing estate located in Puisseguin, in the Gironde. It is owned by the Amoreau family, with Pascal and Valérie Amoreau, alongside Harold Langlais as partners, and Harold Langlais serving as director.

History and philosophy

The estate was acquired in 2012 and taken over in December 2016 by the Amoreau family, representing the fourteenth generation of winegrowers. Closerie Saint-Roc embraces a low-intervention, environmentally friendly viticultural approach, adopting a holistic ecosystem-based method. This practice incorporates the principles of organic farming, biodynamics, as well as elements of agroforestry and permaculture. The estate holds Ecocert and Demeter certifications for its biodynamic commitment.

The appellations

The wines produced by Closerie Saint-Roc are crafted under the Bordeaux and Côtes de Bordeaux appellations.

Winemaking and ageing

Harvesting is carried out by hand. Vinification is performed via gentle infusion using indigenous yeasts, with no synthetic additives and no added sulphur during winemaking. The grapes are destemmed. The wines are neither filtered nor fined. Ageing takes place in seasoned foudres over a period of 24 months. The wines undergo biodynamic dynamisation on their lees.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Closerie Saint-Roc vineyard spans 16 hectares, entirely situated in the commune of Puisseguin. The soils are sandy-silty clay over an asteriated limestone bedrock, itself a clay-limestone subsoil. Parcel elevations range between 80 and 106 metres. The grape varieties for the red wines comprise Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%). To enhance biodiversity, the estate has planted various species such as blackcurrant bushes, elaeagnus and Russian olive trees. Renowned consultants Claude and Lydia Bourguignon have provided their expertise in soil microbiology to the estate.

Flagship cuvées

The estate offers various cuvées, including blends and single-parcel selections.

• Les Pins: Made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, this cuvée offers an aromatic profile of deep black fruit, accompanied by marked acidity and a more assertive texture.
• Les Sureaux: Composed predominantly of Merlot from more southerly vines nestled in woodland, this cuvée is distinguished by its dense and intense structure.
• Les Noyers: This cuvée highlights Cabernet Franc (80%). It is characterised by its fine texture and delicate grain, reflecting its limestone origin.
