Château Annereaux is a winegrowing estate located in Lalande-de-Pomerol, in the Gironde department. It is managed by its owner, Benjamin Hessel.
History and philosophy
The estate boasts origins dating back to 1390. The manor house was reportedly built in 1598, extended in 1818, and transformed into a château in 1912. The estate's history includes a Malescot era beginning in 1660 and a Soehnée era from 1824 onwards. In 1873, the vineyard faced phylloxera. Following a challenging period marked by vineyard damage in 1956 and an aborted sale in 1961, the property underwent a vineyard revival in 1969. In 2004, the family estate was reconstituted. Benjamin Hessel joined the property in 2013, and major infrastructure renovations took place in 2014.
Château Annereaux is deeply committed to environmentally responsible viticulture. It has been certified organic since 2010 and also achieved B Corp certification in 2023. The estate aims to craft wines characterised by their suppleness and harmony.

The vineyard (terroir)
The Château Annereaux vineyard covers 25 hectares. The terroir consists of sand, gravel, and large Middle Pleistocene pebbles, broadly described as a blend of gravel, sand, and clay. The estate has implemented initiatives to preserve biodiversity, including installing nesting boxes, planting hedges, setting up beehives, and introducing fruit trees. Solar panels also help reduce the estate's carbon footprint.
Flagship cuvées
The estate offers several cuvées. The primary wine is Château des Annereaux Lalande de Pomerol, a red wine whose 2012 and 2015 vintages were served at the Élysée Palace. The estate also produces a red Bordeaux, Les Annereaux, blended from 98% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, and a white Bordeaux, Les Annereaux, crafted from 100% Sauvignon Blanc.
Vinification and ageing
For Château des Annereaux Lalande de Pomerol, ageing lasts 12 months, with 25% of the barrels renewed each year. The cellar is equipped with a large 50-hl wooden vat. The red Bordeaux cuvée Les Annereaux is un-oaked.
