History and philosophy
The current château, in its architectural layout, was built in 1777. However, records of earlier owners indicate a presence on the site from the early 18th century. Indeed, in 1739, the widow of Messire Henry Daugeard was the owner, followed in 1760 by Jean Biés, and then in 1765 by Jean François de Rolland. The Duc de Rolland, then President of the Parlement de Bordeaux, is associated with the 1777 construction.
The estate features a U-shaped layout enclosing a rectangular courtyard. The main rectangular building is flanked by two square pavilions. A central projecting section with a triangular pediment adds a neoclassical touch to the façade. The château is also enhanced by an original French-style formal garden, complemented by a zodiac garden. A private landing stage with a wrought-iron gate provides direct access to the Garonne. Château des Rochers is a listed historic monument.
The estate does not purchase external grapes and cultivates its vines using traditional methods.
