Château Dillon

Identity

Château Dillon, located in the commune of Blanquefort, is a winegrowing estate deeply rooted in the Bordeaux vineyard. It operates under the authority of the EPLEFPA Bordeaux-Gironde, in partnership with the Lycée Agro-Viticole de Bordeaux-Blanquefort.

History and philosophy

The vineyard's origins date back to 1596. In 1754, the estate was acquired by Robert Dillon, whose name it still bears. It changed hands in 1829 when purchased by François Seignouret, who commissioned the construction of the cellars in 1840.

Château Dillon was classified as a Cru Bourgeois as early as 1932. In 1956, the estate was sold to the Ministère de l’Agriculture. New cellars were built in 2003. In 2010, the EPLEFPA Bordeaux-Gironde was established, reinforcing the estate's educational vocation. In 2020, Château Dillon was promoted to the Cru Bourgeois Supérieur ranking.

The estate is committed to an environmentally friendly approach, ruling out aggressive treatments. It holds the Agriculture Respectueuse de l'Environnement en Aquitaine (AREA) certification and is certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) Level 3.

Château Dillon also pursues a significant educational mission. It serves as a practical training ground for pupils, students, trainees, and apprentices from the Lycée Agro-Viticole de Bordeaux-Blanquefort. The estate is part of the Club des Lycées Viticoles de Bordeaux-Gironde, working alongside the Lycée Viticole de Libourne-Montagne and the École de Viticulture et d'Œnologie de La Tour Blanche.

Château Dillon produces wines under the Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur appellation and Bordeaux wines.

The vineyard (terroir)

The estate is situated about ten kilometres north of Bordeaux, in the commune of Blanquefort, in an area set between the Atlantic Ocean and the Garonne.

Signature cuvées

The estate offers several cuvées. Château Dillon Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur 2023 stands out for its freshness, fruit-forward profile, and supple structure. The 2022 vintage of this same wine is described as promising, combining power and elegance with fine ageing potential. Château Dillon Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois Supérieur 2021 delivers aromas of ripe fruit and sweet spices. The estate also produces Le Rosé de Dillon under the Bordeaux appellation.
