Château La Croix Saint-Georges is a winegrowing estate located in the Bordeaux region. The property is owned by the Famille Joseph Janoueix, with winemaking overseen by Jean-Philippe Janoueix. Romain Chabrerie is also cited as estate manager.

History and philosophy

The history of Château La Croix Saint-Georges dates back to its ancient ownership by the Knights Hospitaller of Saint John of Jerusalem, later known as the Order of Malta. The estate joined the Famille Joseph Janoueix in 1974. The property is certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale).

The appellations

Château La Croix Saint-Georges produces wines under the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard is located between châteaux Le Pin, Petit Village, and Pétrus, on the gravel of the Pomerol high terrace.

Winemaking and ageing

In the cellar, gravity flow is used to handle the must. Wine ageing takes place in oak barrels.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard of Château La Croix Saint-Georges extends over an area of approximately 4 to 4.5 hectares, with an average vine age of 46 years. The soil is characterised by deep gravel situated on the high terrace. Planting density reaches up to 12,000 vines per hectare. The grape varieties are predominantly Merlot (91% or 95%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (9% or 5%). Viticultural practices include parcel management, minimal chemical use, yield limitation, mechanical ploughing, and green harvesting. The harvest is carried out by hand.

Flagship cuvées

The principal cuvée, Château La Croix Saint-Georges, is characterised by its velvety texture and finesse. The red wines produced on the estate are crafted from the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties.
