Château La Peyruche is situated in the commune of Langoiran in the Gironde. It is owned by Bertrand Weisgerber, with David Sarry serving as estate manager and cellar master.

History and Philosophy

The origins of the Château La Peyruche building date back to the 14th century, followed by a renovation in the 17th century by Etienne Dunoyer. In 2017, the estate came under new ownership and management. Since that same year, Château La Peyruche has been committed to an organic conversion process, achieving organic certification in 2021. The estate also holds HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certification.

Appellations

Château La Peyruche produces wines under several appellations, notably Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux and Bordeaux. White wines are also crafted under the Bordeaux blanc appellation.

The Vineyard (Terroir)

The Château La Peyruche vineyard spans around twenty hectares. The soils are diverse, featuring red gravel knolls at the hilltop crests, clay-limestone slopes, and deep clay soils at the foot of the hillsides. The grape varieties planted include Merlot, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Malbec, Sémillon and Sauvignon. A significant portion of the estate is dedicated to biodiversity, with over half its total surface area comprised of meadows and woodlands.

Key Cuvées

Château La Peyruche offers a range of different cuvées. Among these are red wines under the Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation, such as « Les Trois Chênes », crafted predominantly from Merlot (85%). This cuvée is often aged in oak barrels, lending structure and aromatic complexity to the wine. The estate also produces red wines under the Bordeaux appellation, as well as white wines under the Bordeaux blanc appellation, including the « 1603 » cuvée. Certain white wines are partially fermented and aged on their lees in barrels, bestowing exceptional texture and richness.

Vinification and Ageing

Winemaking practices at Château La Peyruche tailor ageing methods to each cuvée. Red wines, particularly the « Les Trois Chênes » cuvée, may be aged in oak barrels. For white wines such as the « 1603 » cuvée, a portion of the volume (one third) is fermented and aged on its lees in oak barrels, while other red wines may be matured in vats.
