History and philosophy

Pierre Lavau joined the family business in 1986. In 1996, he acquired the Château Petit Fombrauge vineyard. The year 2001 marked the conclusion of the family estate division, and Pierre Lavau settled at the property in 2002.

The estate practises sustainable viticulture with the objective of reducing the use of plant protection products. This approach includes sowing oats and vetch between the vine rows, as well as tillage aimed at curbing the use of herbicides. The estate is certified organic (Vin Biologique).

Château Petit Fombrauge produces wines under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru and Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellations.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard covers a total surface area of 14 hectares. The soils are clay-limestone. The dominant grape variety is Merlot, which accounts for around 90% of the grape varieties for the main Château Petit Fombrauge cuvée.

The area dedicated to the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation spans 5 hectares, while 9 hectares are devoted to the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. An area of 0.85 hectares is reserved for white wine production.

Flagship cuvées

The estate's principal cuvées are Château Petit Fombrauge, under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation, and a cuvée under the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. It also offers a Bordeaux blanc cuvée, named “Notre Blanc de Petit Fombrauge”.

Other cuvées produced by the estate include Château La Rose Piney and Domaine La Tuque Bel-Air.

Vinification and ageing

The 2015 vintage of Château Petit Fombrauge underwent fifteen months of barrel ageing.
