Château Queyret-Pouillac is located in the commune of Saint Antoine du Queyret, in the Gironde department.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Queyret-Pouillac dates back to the 18th century, marked by a stone lintel carved with the date 1783. The estate was already listed in the Ferret classification in 1874.

The estate committed to converting to organic agriculture in 2018.

Appellations

The parcels of Château Queyret-Pouillac are situated in the commune of Saint Antoine du Queyret, and the estate produces wines under the Bordeaux appellation.

Winemaking and ageing

The estate's cellars have a capacity of 8,000 hectolitres. Following alcoholic fermentation, the white and rosé wines undergo lees stirring (bâtonnage) two to three times a week to encourage the development of aromas and complexity.

For the red wines, a portion is aged in barrels for one year for the “Réserve Particulière” cuvée. The remaining wines undergo 12 to 18 months of ageing in stainless steel tanks prior to bottling.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Queyret-Pouillac vineyard extends over a total area of 50 hectares, with 43 hectares planted with red grape varieties and 7 hectares with white grape varieties. The soils consist of clay-siliceous knolls, particularly across the Ruch plateau.

The red grape variety plantings consist of 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. For white wines, it is composed of 50% Sauvignon and 50% Sémillon.

Vineyard management includes double Guyot pruning, limited to 3 or 4 buds per cane.

Flagship cuvées

The estate produces an Entre-Deux-Mers appellation wine, characterised by a very fruity, intense and expressive profile. It offers a lively, aromatic structure on the palate, with notes of tropical fruit such as pineapple, and a crisp, lingering finish.

A Bordeaux Blanc cuvée displays a pale robe with light green highlights. On the palate, it combines aromatic vibrancy with a supple, rounded texture, revealing aromas of dried fruit and nuances of honey. The finish is persistent and fresh.

The Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge cuvée is distinguished by a deep cherry colour and a fruity nose reminiscent of strawberry and raspberry. The attack is powerful and generous, showing good balance and a subtle touch of oak on the mid-palate. The finish is firm, with a tannic structure that provides good longevity.

The estate also crafts a “Réserve Particulière” cuvée from a selection of red wines aged in oak barrels.
