Château La Sauvegarde is located in Soussac, in the Gironde. It is owned by Sébastien Petit, who is also the artisan winegrower.

History and philosophy

The country house at Château La Sauvegarde dates from the 19th century, with origins tracing back to the 18th century. Sébastien Petit took over the operations of Vignobles Petit in 2019. The estate embarked on an organic farming conversion process in 2019.

The appellations

The estate produces wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur and Bordeaux appellations.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château La Sauvegarde vineyard extends over 30 hectares, within a 42-hectare estate, secluded in the heart of the woods. The soils are clay-limestone. The average age of the vines is 30 to 35 years.

The red grape varieties comprise 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon across 27 hectares. The white plantings consist of 95% Sauvignon and 5% Sémillon over 3 hectares.

Flagship cuvées

Château La Sauvegarde produces still red wines. The Château La Sauvegarde cuvée is crafted here; these wines offer a profile praised by some guides as "very successful" for certain vintages. Another cuvée named Château La Sauvegarde L'Authentique is also produced.

Vinification and ageing

Ageing for the red wines generally takes between 8 and 16 months. Certain cuvées benefit from 8 to 10 months of ageing in oak barrels.
