Identity
Château Tayat is a family-owned wine estate located in Cézac, in Gironde. It is owned by the Favereaud family, with Josiane Favereaud among its current representatives. The estate is now managed by Karine and Sébastien, the daughter and son-in-law of Bernard Favereaud.
History and Philosophy
The Favereaud family's winegrowing history dates back to the early 19th century with Blaise Favereaud, born in 1807. The initial family vineyard was established in Germignac, in Charente. The move to Gironde took place after 1851, notably in Cavignac.
Over the generations, the family expanded its operations. After 1939, Guy Favereaud took over Domaine du Cordonnier. In 1965, Guy and Lucienne Favereaud acquired Domaine de la Baconne and began estate bottling and direct sales. In 1972, Bernard Favereaud acquired Château Tayat.
Château Tayat is committed to environmentally respectful viticultural practices, including debudding, grass cover cropping, leaf thinning, green harvesting, parcel-by-parcel selective picking, and manual sorting. The estate holds the Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

Château Tayat produces wines under several Bordeaux appellations: AOC Bordeaux, AOC Bordeaux Supérieur, AOC Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux, AOC Premières Côtes de Blaye, and AOC Crémant de Bordeaux. The estate also produces an AOC Bordeaux rosé wine.

The Vineyard (Terroir)
The Château Tayat vineyard covers 32 hectares across three communes, including Cézac. The soils are diverse: clay-limestone soils are dedicated to crafting age-worthy red wines, while clay-siliceous soils yield supple, fruit-forward red and rosé wines. Sandy soils contribute to the production of complex, aromatic white wines.
The estate's grape varieties are varied. For the red grape varieties, Merlot accounts for 17 hectares, Cabernet Sauvignon for 6 hectares, and Cabernet Franc for 1.5 hectares. For the white grape varieties, Sauvignon is planted on 6 hectares, with Sémillon and Muscadelle covering 1.5 hectares.
