Identity

Château Toulouse-Lautrec is located in the commune of Saint-André-du-Bois, in Gironde. Owned by Kim Valéry Huynh, the estate is managed by general manager Jean-Paul Paris. Charles Estager is the resident winemaker, with Bruno Lacoste serving as consulting oenologist. The estate has also held the Maison des Illustres label since 2016.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Toulouse-Lautrec, formerly Château Malromé, dates back to the 16th century, with its oldest section built around 1570 under the direction of Étienne de Rostéguy de Lancre. The estate subsequently became a family residence. In 1883, Comtesse Adèle de Toulouse-Lautrec, mother of the celebrated painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, acquired the property. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec spent part of his life here and died at the château at the age of 37. The estate served as a retreat and a source of inspiration for the artist. Following a period of closure, the château was acquired in 2013 by Kim Valéry Huynh. It was restored and reopened to the public in August 2017, combining winegrowing activities with its role as a museum and cultural centre.

Château Toulouse-Lautrec produces wines under the Bordeaux Supérieur and Bordeaux appellations.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Toulouse-Lautrec vineyard covers 42 hectares on clay-gravel alluvium soils. The estate has been cultivating vines for five centuries. The red grape varieties are predominantly Merlot, which accounts for 60% of plantings across 36 hectares. For white wines, the vineyard spans 6 hectares, planted with 53% Sauvignon, 43% Sémillon and 2% Muscadelle. The estate has been certified organic since 2023.

Flagship cuvées

The Château Toulouse-Lautrec wine range features Bordeaux Supérieur as well as Bordeaux appellation wines. The cuvée labels showcase artworks by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. The estate also crafts specific cuvées for the Asian market, which are generally suppler and unoaked.
