Château Bel-Air is a family-run winegrowing estate located in Lussac, in Gironde. It is managed by the Roi family, representing the fifth generation at the helm of the property. Antoine Roi is the estate manager and oenologist, while Guillaume Roi oversees marketing and sales.

History and philosophy

\n

The Roi family has owned Château Bel-Air for over a century. Jean-Noël Roi took over the management of the estate in 1978. In 2008, Antoine Roi, a graduate in Viticulture and Oenology, joined the team as assistant oenologist and manager. Since 2014, Stéphane Derenoncourt has been consulting for the estate. Château Bel-Air is committed to an environmental approach aimed at achieving level 3 Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard at Château Bel-Air covers 21 hectares of vines. In 2004, the estate acquired an additional 6 hectares of vines in the Bordeaux appellation, located in Petit-Palais, bringing the estate's total surface area to 30 hectares. Vineyard work includes debudding, secondary shoot removal, leaf thinning, desuckering and, when necessary, green harvesting. Pruning is carried out in single Guyot.

Flagship cuvées

\n

The estate offers several cuvées. The red wines comprise three cuvées, including Château Bel-Air and Château Bel-Air \"Jean & Gabriel\". A white wine, Château Bel-Air, as well as a rosé named BEL-AIR, complete the range.

Vinification and ageing

\n

Harvesting takes place at optimal ripeness for each parcel. The vat room is equipped with small temperature-controlled cement and stainless-steel vats, allowing bespoke macerations and gentle extractions. Ageing for the red wines takes place in French oak barrels for 12 to 18 months. One-third of the barrels are renewed each year. Bottling is carried out entirely at the château in a single run, approximately 18 to 20 months after harvest.
