Identity

Château Lalande Labatut is a winegrowing estate located in Salleboeuf, in the Gironde. It is owned by Isabelle and Régis Falxa, who took over the family property. Isabelle Falxa also acts as the estate's winemaker.

History and philosophy

The history of Château Lalande Labatut began with Dominique Falxa, who acquired his first plots in 1971 and established the estate in 1976. The first bottles were released onto the market in 1979. In 2005, the family property was taken over by his children, Isabelle and Régis Falxa.

The estate is committed to environmentally friendly practices, as demonstrated by its Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

Appellations

Château Lalande Labatut produces wines under several appellations, notably AOC Entre-deux-Mers for white wines, and AOC Bordeaux and AOC Bordeaux Supérieur for red wines. The estate also crafts Crémant de Bordeaux as well as wines under the IGP Pays de l'Atlantique.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Lalande Labatut vineyard covers 44 hectares, planted on an exceptional terroir in the Entre-Deux-Mers region.

The grape varieties for the white wines include Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, sometimes in equal proportions, alongside Sémillon and Muscadelle. For the red wines, Merlot is the primary grape variety, often dominating the blends, complemented by Cabernet-Sauvignon. A single-varietal cuvée made purely from Cabernet-Sauvignon is also produced.

Château Lalande Labatut offers a diverse range of cuvées:

Red Wines

• Château Lalande Labatut (Bordeaux Rouge): A red wine crafted predominantly from Merlot (around 70%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon. Certain cuvées may be aged in oak barrels for 12 months.
• Cuvée Prestige (Bordeaux Supérieur Rouge): This cuvée is aged in oak barrels for 15 months and offers an ageing potential of over ten years.
• Red & Fruity (IGP Pays de l'Atlantique): An approachable, fruit-driven red wine.

White Wines

• Château Lalande Labatut (Entre-deux-Mers): A dry white wine, traditionally crafted from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris, occasionally with Sémillon and Muscadelle. Certain cuvées are aged in vats.
• Entre-deux-Mers Bag in Box: A large-format version of their dry white wine.

Rosé Wines

• Mademoiselle Pink: A still rosé wine.

Sparkling Wines

• Crémant de Bordeaux (Brut Blanc): A sparkling wine whose ageing can last from 12 to 16 months.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification techniques vary according to the cuvée. Some white wines are aged in vats, while red wines, particularly the Cuvée Prestige, benefit from oak barrel ageing for up to 15 months. The ageing of the Crémant de Bordeaux lasts between 12 and 16 months.
