Identity

Château Peyrat is located in the commune of Cérons, in the Gironde. It is owned by the Groupement Foncier Viticole (GFV) Château Peyrat, which brings together 27 partners, and is managed by the company Vignobles Martial-Dulor. The team comprises Damien Martial, technical manager and winemaker, Ludovic Martial, managing director and sales manager, and Aurélien Dulor, export sales manager.

History and philosophy

The Château Peyrat project was initiated in 2014 by Aurélien Dulor, Ludovic Martial, and Damien Martial. The estate's funding is based on a Groupement Foncier Viticole bringing together, alongside the two brothers and their friend, 27 investors. The estate's philosophy is family-oriented and hedonistic, favouring the authenticity of the terroir and respect for the land. The estate has welcomed a BTS viticulture-oenology student from the Lycée Professionnel Agricole de La Tour Blanche for every vintage since 2019.

Appellations

Château Peyrat produces wines under the Graves appellation, as well as under the Blaye-Côtes-de-Bordeaux appellation.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Château Peyrat vineyard covers a total area of 17 hectares, with 7.5 hectares dedicated to red grape varieties and 8 hectares to white varieties. The plots form a single contiguous block surrounding the Château. Located in the commune of Cérons, the vineyard benefits from an environment characterised by surrounding forests and its proximity to the Garonne river, approximately 200 metres away. The soils consist of fine sandy gravel, clay, traditional gravel, and clay-limestone. The bedrock is limestone. This distinctive microclimate is influenced by the proximity of the Garonne.

The red grape varieties comprise 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. For the white wines, the vineyard is planted with 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon.

In terms of viticultural practices, the estate is committed to a strictly sustainable approach. Herbicides are banned and soil cultivation is entirely mechanical. Château Peyrat works to restore natural balances and foster biodiversity, incorporating agroforestry within the vines and planning the introduction of beehives. The estate has been certified HVE 3 since 2019 and is in conversion to organic farming. Vineyard restructuring is also planned, introducing more resistant, late-ripening grape varieties to reduce treatments.

Flagship cuvées

Château Peyrat crafts both red and white wines. The white wines stand out for their highly aromatic, fruit-driven profile. The red wines are characterised as silky and generous. Key cuvées include Château Peyrat Graves and Château Les Tours de Peyrat "Dans la nature" in Blaye-Côtes-de-Bordeaux red.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification of the white wines includes rigorous sorting and a light cold settling, followed by direct pressing. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in vats and barrels, including 400-litre demi-muids with light ("blonde") and steam toasting. Ageing lasts approximately 12 months without racking, followed by gradual bottling without filtration. Château Les Tours de Peyrat "Dans la nature" is barrel-aged.
