Identity

Château Sirio is located in the commune of Cérons. It is owned by Fabrice and Emer Priou.

History and philosophy

The estate's winegrowing history dates back at least 270 years. Formerly known as Maison Noble de Couteleyre, the property was acquired by its current owners in 2015 and renamed Château Sirio, a name derived from the Latin name for Cérons. Château Sirio has chosen a sustainable viticulture approach and implements environmentally sound practices. The soils are nourished with organic manure and plant composts. The estate uses no pesticides in managing its vineyard.

Appellations

Château Sirio's wines are produced under the Graves Protected Designation of Origin. The estate produces red and white wines in AOC Graves, as well as a second wine, Château de Couteleyre, also in AOC Graves.

The vineyard (terroir)

Château Sirio's vineyard covers 12 hectares, complemented by parcels of woodland and coppice, for a total estate surface of 18 hectares. The soils consist of clay-limestone as well as clay-gravel.

The grape variety mix for red wines is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon. For the white wines, Sauvignon is the main variety, accompanied by Sémillon.

Vinification and ageing

For the red wines, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled concrete vats, followed by malolactic fermentation. Ageing lasts 12 months in French oak barrels, comprising new, one-wine, and two-wine casks. Harvesting is carried out both manually and mechanically.

The white wines are fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and aged for 7 months in new French oak barrels.

The second wine, Château de Couteleyre, is fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats and aged for 8 months.
