History and philosophy

The history of this property dates back to the 19th century, when it was known as L'Angélus. Later renamed Château Ratouin, the estate was acquired in 2006 by Jean-Luc and Muriel Thunevin. This purchase encompassed an estate of around 4 hectares.

The appellations

The estate's plots produce wines under the Pomerol appellation, as well as under the Bordeaux appellation.

Flagship wines

Clos du Beau-Père offers red wines. These wines are crafted from the Merlot and Cabernet Franc grape varieties. The estate also produces white wine. The average annual production ranges between 15,000 and 20,000 bottles.

The vineyard (terroir)

The Clos du Beau-Père vineyard covers an area of 4 hectares. The vines have an average age of approximately 40 years, particularly for the Merlot, whilst the Cabernet Franc averages 20 years old. The terroir is characterised by soils composed of gravel and sand, with 80% of the plots situated on deep gravel and 20% on clay-gravel. The grape varieties are dominated by Merlot (90%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (10%). Harvesting is carried out by hand.
