History and philosophy

Clos Lariveau is a former 16th-century manorial residence built by the Knights of Malta. The estate was taken over in 2009 by Burgundy native Nicolas Dabudyk.

The viticultural philosophy at Clos Lariveau combines a plot-by-plot approach with the principles of biodynamics. The estate is certified organic.

Appellations

The estate produces wines under the Canon-Fronsac appellation, notably for its “Château Lariveau”, “Le Bouquet de Lariveau”, “Le p’tit canon de Lariveau”, and “Au cœur de Lariveau” cuvées. The “Nature de Lariveau” cuvée is produced under the Bordeaux appellation.

Winemaking and ageing

The “Au cœur de Lariveau” cuvée is aged for three years in 600-litre casks. “Château Lariveau” is aged for two years in 400-litre oak barrels. The “Le p’tit canon de Lariveau” cuvée is aged in vats on its lees.

The grape variety mix consists of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The “Nature de Lariveau” cuvée is crafted from 100% Merlot vines grown on soils bordering the Dordogne. The “Le p’tit canon de Lariveau” cuvée comes from plots located at the foot of the hillside on clay-limestone soils, and is also made exclusively from Merlot. “Château Lariveau” comes from vines planted on sand-clay-limestone soils on a south-facing hillside. The “Le Bouquet de Lariveau” cuvée is produced from Cabernet Franc. The “Au cœur de Lariveau” cuvée originates from soils situated on the plateau summit and is planted with Merlot.
