First of all, it reinforces our practices. We must urgently rebuild the soil's clay-humus complex. Testimonials from American, Tunisian and Brazilian farmers offer an immense sign of hope. We can very quickly regenerate living soils in agriculture. The prerequisite foundation is working with permanent cover crops, introducing as much diversity as possible into these seedings. We were already sowing field beans, clovers and ancient grains. Next year, we will add even more seed varieties: rye, oats, buckwheat, Alexandrian clover... nature dislikes monoculture. We used to sow every other row; we will certainly start sowing every single row. The constraint for us was the passage of the tractor (every other row) and clearing the vine prunings in winter. We need to find a solution. Furthermore, we were applying a seed rate of 150 kilos per hectare. This feedback shows us that we can go further, up to 220–230 kilos per hectare. Planting cover crops in every row, increasing the seed weight per hectare, working on decomposing our vine prunings directly on our soils (whilst tackling trunk diseases)—we have just realised that we still have plenty of levers to foster ever more vibrant, living soils, yielding healthier and therefore more resilient vines. And all of this, ultimately, to produce better juices, living wines that we will be proud to present to you.
