We have earthed up this year's new plantings
This allows us to suppress the weeds that were starting to grow and retain moisture around the base of the vine for longer. It will help us avoid watering if there is a prolonged dry spell this summer. New plantings require particularly close attention, otherwise you pay the price for years trying to make up for lost ground.
