Listrac-Médoc

The terroir

The Listrac-Médoc appellation is situated in the northern part of the Gironde department, within the Bordeaux vineyard. It is characterised by soils composed primarily of gravel and clay. This soil composition contributes to good water retention and the gradual ripening of the grape varieties. The altitude here is slightly higher than in neighbouring appellations, promoting excellent drainage and optimal exposure for the vines.

The wines

Listrac-Médoc wines are exclusively red. The permitted and predominantly used grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The wines produced are widely recognised for their tannic structure, robust body and ageing potential. They express red and black fruit aromas, often accompanied by spicy or toasty notes derived from oak ageing.

Food pairings

Owing to their structure and aromatic profile, Listrac-Médoc wines pair naturally with rich dishes. They are traditionally served with grilled red meats, meats in rich sauces, as well as game. They also pair well with mature cheeses. Decanting can be beneficial for younger wines to release their aromas and soften their tannins prior to tasting.
