History and philosophy
The name "Fonréaud", meaning "Royal Fountain", is said to stem from a 12th-century legend where Henry II Plantagenet quenched his thirst at a spring on the estate. The current residence was built around 1859 by the architect Garros for the Leblanc de Mauvezin family. The Chanfreau family has owned the property for four generations. In 1988, the family revived the Le Cygne cuvée, originally created in 1899. The estate is firmly committed to sustainable viticulture, holding both HVE (High Environmental Value) Level 3 and Terra Vitis certifications.

The Château Fonréaud vineyard spans 35 hectares. The soils consist of Pyrenean gravel and large pebble gravel over a clay-limestone subsoil. The vines have an average age of 30 years, planted at an average density of 7,000 vines per hectare. The grape varieties grown are Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (40%), and Petit Verdot (5%). The estate does not purchase any external grapes.

The estate's flagship red wine, Château Fonréaud, reveals fruit and vanilla aromas. It is prized for its fresh, generous, and approachable style, with an ageing potential typically ranging from 5 to 10 years. The estate also produces a second red wine, La Légende de Fonréaud. A white wine cuvée is also crafted under the name Bordeaux Le Cygne.
Vinification and ageing
The wines are crafted using traditional vinification methods in concrete vats. Ageing takes place in oak barrels for approximately 13 months, using 30% to 33% new oak.

Afterbeach en Médoc | Bordeaux Tourisme & Congrès
Les Afterbeach en Médoc sont de retour pour leur 9ème saison, du 11 juin au 10 septembre 2026, tous les mercredis et jeudis de 17h à 21h. Ces événements, organisés par les offices de tourisme Médoc plein Sud et Médoc Atlantique, proposent une expérience gourmande et authentique au cœur des vignobles médocains. Chaque semaine, deux châteaux viticoles ouvrent leurs portes pour des visites commentées par les propriétaires ou leurs équipes, permettant de découvrir le savoir-faire viticole du Médoc. Le programme inclut des dégustations de vins des domaines participants ainsi que des planches apéritives et gourmandes composées de charcuterie, fromages et diverses spécialités. L'ambiance est décrite comme chaleureuse et décontractée, idéale pour prolonger une journée estivale.
