History and Philosophy

The history of Château Garbes-Cabanieu is underpinned by a long line of winegrowers, with the David family representing the seventh generation at the helm of the estate. Hervé David joined his father Pierre David in 1977, following training that included time at Château de la Tour Blanche. In 1979, Hervé David married Marinette David and took over the management of the property that very same year. In the 2000s, their son Thomas David joined the estate after studying at Château La Tour Blanche and the Montagne Saint-Émilion viticultural school. More recently, in 2019, Hervé's daughter Laure and his son-in-law Miguel also joined the team. The estate holds Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification.

The Appellations

Château Garbes-Cabanieu produces wines under several appellations, notably Cadillac, Crémant de Bordeaux, Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Rosé, and Bordeaux Blanc Sec Sauvignon. The estate also crafts wines under the Cadillac Grains Nobles appellation.

Winemaking and Ageing

Vinification and ageing methods vary according to the cuvée. The Crémant Brut de Bordeaux is aged for 15 months in the bottle on riddling racks following hand-harvesting. The Bordeaux Blanc Sec Sauvignon is aged on fine lees in stainless steel vats. The Caprice cuvée undergoes 4 months of ageing in oak barrels, while the Bordeaux Rosé is aged on fine lees in stainless steel vats. For certain sweet wines, such as Grains Nobles, ageing takes place in barrels. The Côtes de Bordeaux red wines are aged either in vats, as with the Château Garbes-Cabanieu 2022 cuvée, or in barrels for the "Élevé en fût de chêne" cuvée.
