Identity

Château Jacquet is a winegrowing estate located in Saint-André-de-Cubzac, in Gironde. The estate is owned by the Letourneau family. Martine and François Letourneau founded the château in 1981, and the property is today run by Vincent and Sandrine Letourneau.

History and philosophy

Château Jacquet owes its name to the pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago (Saint Jacques de Compostelle). Founded in 1981 by Martine and François Letourneau, the estate initiated a policy to restrict plant protection inputs in 2006. This environmental approach was further developed from 2013 onwards, leading to Terra Vitis certification in 2020.

Appellations

Château Jacquet produces wines under the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations. The estate also offers a cuvée under the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château Lacour Jacquet, as well as Côtes de Bourg wines under the name Château Tour de Cazelle.

Château Jacquet is located at 185 route de Bourg, 33240 Saint André de Cubzac. Complimentary tours and tastings are available. The tasting room and shop are open Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. Weekend visits are by appointment. The vineyard (terroir)

The vineyard of Château Jacquet spans 40 hectares, planted on clay-gravel soils. Weeding is carried out mechanically. The main grape varieties grown are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The estate also produces wines crafted from Cabernet Franc. The harvest is carried out by hand for selected cuvées.

Flagship cuvées

The estate offers several cuvées, notably Château Jacquet in AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur, crafted from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The "Enigma" cuvée is a no-added-sulphite red wine made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The property also produces "Les Secrets de Pauline", a dry white wine, "Les Caprices de Jade", a rosé wine, and "Douceur", a delicately sweet white wine. The cuvées under the Château Tour de Cazelle label are red Côtes de Bourg wines, one focused on fruit expression and the other displaying an oaked character. Château Lacour Jacquet, in the Haut-Médoc appellation, is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Merlot (45%), Petit Verdot (3%), and Cabernet Franc (2%), aged in oak barrels and stainless-steel vats, with a palate often described as rich, featuring firm tannins and notes of black fruit and liquorice. The estate's red wines generally showcase a deep purple colour, with fruity aromas of blackcurrant, strawberry, and blackberry, complemented by notes of coffee, mocha, and forest floor.

Vinification and ageing

Winemaking practices at Château Jacquet include complete destemming. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. The main cellar has a capacity of 2,100 hectolitres. Ageing is carried out in oak casks, one- or two-wine barrels, or stainless-steel vats, depending on the cuvée. Certain wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered. A dedicated storage cellar is used for bottle maturation and labelling.
