Cabernet Sauvignon or Petite Vidure in Pulliat and Mas's ampelography in 1877

Long established as a truly great grape variety in Bordeaux, which was mainly found on the Left Bank prior to the use of rootstocks. Phylloxera and the use of rootstocks allowed the widespread adoption of the same grape varieties across the Gironde. This was far from the case in the 19th century, when there were more than 50 grape varieties in the Bordeaux vineyard.
