Omega grafting versus T-bud grafting

A visit from Marc Birebent (from Worldwide Vineyards) to the estate to discuss grafting and its impact on vine longevity.
Across vineyards everywhere, omega grafting has become the standard. It is efficient and productive, but results in the development of necrosis around the graft union (see photo on the left). The vine's lifespan is directly threatened, and grapevine trunk diseases become more frequent.
With T-bud grafting, graft take is far superior with less necrosis. It ensures greater longevity for the vine with facilitated sap flow.
However, this type of grafting comes at a much higher cost. An investment for the future and for better wines?
