Le Jardin des Vignes: a multifaceted living space

At Château Cazebonne, the Jardin des Vignes is much more than a cultivated plot: it is a true open-air laboratory and an ecosystem in its own right. Located in the heart of our estate, this space embodies our philosophy of respecting all living things and biodiversity. It is not merely a testament to our commitment to sustainable viticulture; it is also the symbol of a generous and resilient nature, where every element, from the tiniest insect to the imposing vines, plays a crucial role.

A rich and diverse ecosystem

Le Jardin des Vignes is characterised by the diversity of its flora and fauna. Beyond the forgotten Bordeaux grape varieties that we are striving to reintroduce, there is a multitude of plant and animal species that contribute to the balance of the terroir. Wildflowers, such as poppies or dandelions, grow alongside aromatic herbs, providing food and shelter for a varied fauna. From essential pollinating insects to the birds nesting in the hedgerows, every inhabitant contributes to the vitality of this place. This biological abundance is a reflection of our farming practices, which promote biodiversity and respect natural balances. We are also experimenting with growing vegetables, such as tomatoes, to diversify the species present.

A unique geology at the service of taste

The typicity of Le Jardin des Vignes is also marked by its geology. The soils, composed of a mosaic of gravel, sand and clay, offer a complexity that is passed on to the wines. This diversity of terroirs allows each grape variety to fully express itself, revealing unique aromas and structures. The study of this viticultural geology guides us in our planting choices and our adaptation to climate challenges, allowing us to select the grape varieties most likely to thrive on these specific plots.

The Jardin des Vignes experience

Visiting Le Jardin des Vignes offers an immersion into the heart of our history and our commitment. It is an opportunity to discover first-hand the numerous experiments we are conducting, such as trellising on stakes, or to observe the abundant life that develops here throughout the seasons. Although it is not independently accessible to the public, it is the starting point for many discussions during our meetings and events hosted on the estate. To find out more about the history and the choices that have shaped the Bordeaux wine landscape, you can download our book "Bordeaux, une histoire de cépages". To test your knowledge, feel free to try our oenological quizzes. Finally, to discover the fruit of this passionate work, we invite you to visit our online shop and explore our cuvées, true reflections of this exceptional terroir that we cultivate with care and devotion.
