Family celebrations are precious, timeless moments filled with laughter, shared memories and, more often than not, memorable meals. For these very special occasions, selecting the ideal wine is an art: striking the perfect balance between pleasure on the palate and conviviality. At Château Cazebonne, a family-owned estate in Graves farmed organically and biodynamically, we craft wines that embody these values, designed to enhance your get-togethers.
Our cuvées are created for immediate drinkability, offering reds with velvety tannins and crisp, aromatic whites that will delight every palate. Picture a pétillant naturel like our Pet'Nat' Gaz'bonne to get the festivities underway as an aperitif, an elegant Blanc de Cazebonne to complement your starters or delicate fish dishes, and a structured yet balanced Graves Rouge for the main course. This versatility ensures a harmonious pairing with the wide variety of dishes typically found on a festive table.
Beyond their sensory appeal, the wines of Cazebonne are also wonderful conversation starters. Discussing our commitment to organic and biodynamic viticulture, or our ambitious project to replant forgotten grape varieties (such as Mancin or Castets), turns tasting into a genuine exploration of Bordeaux's viticultural heritage. Our first star awarded by the Guide Hachette des Vins—a proud recognition of the quality of our craft—adds a touch of prestige and naturally sparks the curiosity of your guests.
By choosing Cazebonne, you opt for wholesome, environmentally friendly wines crafted without synthetic chemicals. You are also supporting a passionate endeavour: reviving the history of lost Bordeaux grape varieties. This strong commitment is detailed in "Bordeaux, une histoire de cépages", co-authored by Jean-Baptiste Duquesne. Reconstructing the vineyard's past is made possible thanks to the trust and enthusiasm of many wine lovers. You too can take part in this adventure by finding our cuvées on the Cazebonne online boutique. To delve deeper into this fascinating history, we invite you to access the digital edition of "Bordeaux, une histoire de cépages" on our website.
Organising a family celebration involves taking care of many details, and the choice of wines is paramount to elevate the meal and foster a warm atmosphere. It is not just about finding high-quality wines, but also selecting cuvées tailored to everyone's preferences and to the various dishes served, from the aperitif right through to dessert.
For a family celebration, variety is key. It is wise to provide a selection of wines with diverse aromatic profiles to satisfy all tastes. A crisp, dry white wine will be ideal for light starters or seafood, whilst a fruity, supple red will be the perfect match for white meats or dishes with mildly spiced sauces. For richer fare or game, a red with more structure and integrated tannins will be greatly appreciated. Do not overlook aperitif options, such as a sparkling wine, which will bring everyone together right from the start of the festivities.
At Château Cazebonne, we craft organic and biodynamic wines in Graves, tailor-made for sharing. To kick off the celebration, our Pet'Nat' Gaz'bonne is an original, festive choice. This pétillant naturel, crafted using the ancestral method, offers fine bubbles and fruity aromas that make it an excellent aperitif, or an unexpected pairing with fruit-based desserts. For starters or seafood and fish courses, our Blanc de Cazebonne, blended from Sémillon and Sauvignon, will prove a discerning choice with its freshness and citrus notes. For the main course, especially if red meat is served, our Graves red wines, such as a traditional Graves Rouge based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, will deliver structure and elegance without overpowering the dish. Their balance and silky tannins make them exceptionally versatile at the table.
Serving temperature is vital to show a wine at its best. White wines and pétillants naturels should be served chilled, between 8°C and 10°C. Red wines, meanwhile, express themselves best at a slightly higher temperature, between 16°C and 18°C, ensuring their aromas are not masked by alcohol. Decanting may be beneficial for our younger or more structured red wines to release their aromas and soften their tannins. In contrast, for older or more delicate reds, simply opening the bottle an hour before serving is more than sufficient.
If you wish to vary the styles, consider sweet wines to accompany desserts, or a fresh, fruity rosé, which is always popular during warmer months. For guests who do not drink alcohol, be sure to offer high-quality non-alcoholic alternatives. The most important thing is that everyone feels welcome and enjoys their time around the table.
When hosting a family celebration, the diversity of your guests and their personal tastes is essential to bear in mind. Successful food and wine pairing is not merely about strict rules, but about creating synergy between flavours. Do not hesitate to ask your wine merchant or contact the estate directly for bespoke recommendations, whether for pairing our wines with specific dishes or for dinner parties with friends. To find out which wine to choose for a communion, you can also explore our dedicated food and wine pairing guide.
To avoid any stress on the day, prepare your wines in advance. Store them at the right temperature and, if necessary, decant the reds or chill the whites and sparkling wines. For an original touch, provide a short tasting note for each wine served, detailing its characteristics and suggested pairings. This will prompt conversation and allow your guests to appreciate each cuvée even more.
Château Cazebonne is passionately committed to reviving the lost grape varieties of Bordeaux—a long-term endeavour made possible by the support of wine enthusiasts who embrace our wines.
