A wonderful meeting yesterday with José Vouillamoz, one of the world's leading grape variety specialists, co-author of the seminal book Wine Grapes with Jancis Robinson

He kindly brought me a bottle made from the Gouais grape variety, a major grape in the history of ampelography, as it notably gave birth to Chardonnay, Aligoté, Gamay, Romorantin… Gouais is also the parent of numerous grape varieties from the South-West.
It is a productive grape variety, with good acidity, but not very aromatic.
It was once planted in the vineyards of Bordeaux; we are going to replant a row of it this spring.
